History

If you have ever stood next to one of Granite Precasting's massive, custom designed detention vaults, you'll be all the more amazed to learn that the company started in a garage with two employees, a few curb forms, and a portable concrete mixer.

How have the last twenty years moved Granite Precasting from this humble beginning to its current status as a solid industry leader throughout the Pacific Northwest - providing both an extensive line of standard products and state-of-the-art custom precast design? Granite Precasting's successful growth stems from a leadership team that has consistently invested in the equipment, technology, and key personnel that will ensure the best possible product for our customers - both today and tomorrow.

Mark and Roy Salisbury began Granite Precasting and Concrete, Inc. in 1984. They soon moved to a 5 acre production facility on Bakerview Spur, and Roy left the company to pursue other interests. This move enabled the company to expand its product line beyond curbs and wheel stops. First catch basins, then 48" manholes, were added to GPC's inventory.

Between 1990 and 1995, further significant additions were made to GPC's product line. A greater variety of catch basins were added, along with 54" and 72" manholes. A few years later, 96" manholes were also made available. During this time two adjoining pieces of property were acquired, to make enough space for production, inventory, and office space for additional personnel. GPC also, in these years, began to establish it's own fleet of trucks to better meet the delivery needs of it's increasing number of customers.

In 1996, Granite Precasting and Concrete, Inc. made a decisive move towards the production of larger, customized precast structures. In order to realize this, more land along Bakerview was acquired and new offices were built. Additionally, a major investment was made into the technology and equipment required to effectively build these larger, more difficult structures. New computers, software, multiple vault forms, an additional boom truck, and a 45 ton forklift were all a part of this investment.

Over the next few years, GPC's capacity for vault production expanded to include three-sided bridges, detention vaults, and precast trench. GPC also continued to diversify it's standard inventory - offering a range of manhole sizes up to 144" in diameter. To enable this continued expansion, GPC invested in additional key personnel, office space, bridge cranes, and yet more adjoining property.

At present, Granite Precasting and Concrete, Inc. employs over sixty people year round. Twelve forklifts and five boom trucks are required to facilitate production and delivery. Skilled and experienced production teams work together with on-site estimating, drafting, dispatch, and office support staff, to produce an extensive line of products that can be tailored to virtually any customer need.

Future plans include a move to a forty-acre site just north of Bellingham. This move, scheduled to take place in the near future, will allow for adequate storage of GPC's product line. State of the art equipment and production facilities will be installed to ensure that Granite Precasting and Concrete, Inc. continues to provide competitively priced, high quality precast products in the years to come.
